DDD’s Gold Touch of Manmar ML x Manmars Love Talk

Breeder: Charles Coulter & Mary Galvan

Maria, our first Champion, left us on Christmas Eve 2008—An enormous loss to our family.  We will be always grateful to Mary Galvan of Manmar Dachshunds for letting us have this pretty girl as a very green, novice show home. She is the dam of Melody, our first homebred Dual Champion. From the day she set foot in our home, she was the undisputed ruler of the house, but we loved her anyway!   What can we say, Maria was… She did things her own way and you could fit in our not. It was up to you. There is none like her and she was so precious to us. Thankfully we have a little glimmer of her still with us in her daughter, grand children, and great grand children.

Ch. Car-Rae’s Moonbeam V Packer ML, ROMO x Ch. Manmars Jamaica Me Happy ML, NA, NAJ

BREEDER: Christopher & Patricia Mims

Melody was our first home-bred champion finishing in grand style with three majors—showing a total of 13 shows including the 1998 Dachshund Club of America National Specialty where she earned  a placement in the 12-18 mo Puppy Sweepstakes class. She finished by earning winners bitch at the 1998 National Miniature Dachshund Club Round Up in Austin, Texas with a five point major win. We knew we had been blessed with a rare and incredible girl when Melody was four months old. She has turned out to be more than we could have ever wished for!

She earned her field championship quickly, and earned the 1st leg of her Junior Earthdog title in February 2005  Junior Earthdog and completed the title March 4, 2006 at the Tejas Earthdog Club’s test under Judge Morris Fraley. This qualifies her to be recognized with the Dachshund Club of America’s Versatility Certificate. She is our first dog to accomplish this honor. Melody earned her first Senior Earthdog Leg on November 5, 2006 with judge Doreen Workman, her second SE Leg in October 2008 with judge Cindi Todd, and her final SE leg with Judge  Doreen Workman on February 22, 2009.

In 2004 she and her daughter Kate were the Best Brace in Show at the 2004 Dachshund Club of American National Specialty and she earned an “Award of Merit” at the 2005 Dachshund Club of America National Specialty Field Trial in the highly competitive Field Champion Bitch Stake.

Melody came in from the field and was Best Opposite Sex to Best Longhair at the Houston Dachshund Club July 2005 Specialty under respected breeder judge Mr. Robert Wlodkowski. Melody earned BOS honors again in March 2006 under breeder judge Gwen Wexler.

Melody earned her ROMX on December 15, 2007 with the completion of her son Austin’s Field Championship.

Melody was one of a litter of three. Her sister April lived with Dr. John and Suzanne Shelby and their daughters, Victoria and Abigail. April was shown and earned nine single points fairly quickly, along with a dozen or more major reserves. We stopped showing April when it became apparent that her Victoria, the Shelby’s oldest daughter and April’s best pal was very upset when April left for long weekends at the dog shows. Since our dog’s highest calling is to be companions for their families we felt it was too much to ask to have a little girl crying because her puppy was gone. Sadly, April was lost in a tragic accident in October of 2006. Our hearts were broken, but April was loved every day of her life. She is no doubt clearing heaven of all squirrels and vermin so when we meet again we won’t have that to worry about. She will always be in our hearts.

Melody’s brother Vadar lives with Rick and Cindi Mitchell and family. He has traveled the world with the Mitchells and lived as far away as South Africa. He passed away in October 2007 from heart problems suspected to have been caused by a case of Lyme Disease he contracted while living in South Africa.
